For student-body president Elaine-Rebecca E. ’24, being an Oakie means to “be someone that can be counted on, someone that shares in the love of Jesus Christ, and someone that treasures the people around them,” she says.
“Oakcrest has instilled in me a desire to be a loyal friend and someone that my friends can count on for whatever they may need, and I plan to take all these characteristics outside of Oakcrest with me to college,” Elaine adds. “I want to be that friend that people know they can count on and trust with anything. All these attributes that I have listed are instilled within every Oakcrest student, creating girls that will be the face of Jesus Christ on this earth to everyone that they encounter.”
Elaine started at Oakcrest in the 9th grade, after seeing that the girls at Oakcrest were the kind of people that she wanted to spend her time with.
Elaine serves as the student body president, leading the school in monthly reflections during monthly Common Homerooms (ComHom) and inspiring the students in the school’s theme “Put me in, Coach” - encouraging alacrity among students as they step up in all areas of their lives. In addition to her role on student council, she is an all-around athlete and captain of the Varsity Basketball, Lacrosse, and Volleyball teams. Elaine is a member of Harp Circle, Respect Life Club, Mathematics Honor Society, and Medical Club.
“These opportunities have provided me with an immense amount of leadership that has given me the chance to be a role model to my fellow classmates,” she explains. “Not only that, but I love being part of a team and knowing I have so many wonderful girls who I can always count on and will be in my life for years to come.”
As she looks back on some of her favorite memories and classes, Elaine says she will always remember her AP Calculus class with Ms. Anna Diederich ’17. “She was such an amazing teacher who truly cared for her students, and I still think about her all the time and the wonderful pieces of advice she has given me.”
The aspect of Oakcrest that means the most to her is “the people”, she says. “I have made some of the best friends that I will ever have in my entire life, and I know these girls will be in my life forever. To say I am so thankful for this community would simply be an understatement.”
After graduation this spring, Elaine plans to attend college for nursing. “I will miss my friends and the wonderful bonds I have with my teachers. The entire community that Oakcrest is will forever be in my memory and I will miss it immensely.”
