Junior wins Scottish Harp Society of America's tune writing competition

Lucy Ruse ’24 was recently recognized by the Scottish Harp Society of America for her composition entry in the group’s 40th anniversary tune writing competition. Her piece, Equinox, placed first among many entries and will now be published.

The Scottish Harp Society of America established the tune writing competition to celebrate the group’s 40th anniversary. The competition was open to members of the Scottish Harp Society of America and received entries from harpers with a variety of different backgrounds and experiences. Lucy’s piece was chosen among submissions from seasoned Celtic harpers, including many who have been published and have toured internationally!

Oakcrest Instrumental and Harp Circle Director Alix Baldwin, who has worked with Lucy for many years, said, “I am extremely proud of what Lucy has accomplished here. This competition was open to all members of the Harp Society, worldwide, and there were many entries from all over the world. Lucy's excellent slip jig shows real understanding of the harp and the Celtic style, and was the result of a lot of hard work. How thrilling to know that harpers all over the world will be playing her tune; we can't wait to play it at Oakcrest!”

Congratulations, Lucy!
