Oakcrest School holds Day of Service, giving back to the community

On Friday, March 22, 2024, Oakcrest School hosted a Day of Service where over 300 students went out to 15 different locations throughout Maryland, Northern Virginia, and Washington, D.C. From Irish dancing to beautifying local parks in the area, and visiting with residents at various shelters and homes, Oakcrest School is thrilled to provide this opportunity to its students to give back to the community.

Oakcrest Students served at the following locations:

  • A Woman’s Choice (Falls Church and Herndon) 
  • Arbor Terrace of Herndon 
  • Bartholomew House
  • Brightview Great Falls Assisted Living and Memory Care
  • Little Sisters of the Poor, Jeanne Jugan Residence
  • Paragon Assisted Living (Falls Church and McLean) 
  • Spring Hills Senior Communities, Mount Vernon 
  • St. Lucy Food Project Warehouse 
  • St. Martin de Porres Senior Center 
  • Spring Hill Rec Center
  • Towers Park 

Oakcrest School sees service at the heart of Christian leadership, wanting to instill in its students that service can be an integral part of one’s life. Our various service programs help our students recognize the beauty of self-gift and the many ways that they can step into servant-leadership. “At Oakcrest, generosity and service is at the heart of all that we do,” Dean of Students Liz Rolwes said. “We know that true happiness is found in selflessly serving others and we are grateful for the opportunity to take time from our regular school day to serve the community. We look forward to this year’s day of service, and it's inspiring to see everyone return with beaming smiles!”

In a special way, the 2024 Service Day is dedicated in memory of Anna Diederich, Oakcrest Class of 2017, to remember her own heartfelt commitment to serving others with joy.
