Gianna Castillo ‘23 has had the blessing of attending Oakcrest with not just one, but two of her sisters. She became an Oakie in sixth grade. Her older sister Kateri ‘21 had joined Oakcrest as a sixth grader and after seeing how happy she was, the Castillos decided to send Gianna there as well. Eventually their sister Carmen, who is a freshman, joined the Oakcrest family too.
Now in her junior year, Gianna has experienced many highlights of her time at Oakcrest, both academic and extracurricular. Her favorite classes so far have been AP European history and orchestra. She looks back fondly on the 8th grade flag football games, as well as the 8th grade whitewater rafting trip. She is excited for the books she is reading in English class, and she is happy to be diving back into Oakcrest’s vibrant culture of service.
Gianna has been active in many facets of school life at Oakcrest. She has served as a student ambassador, as well as playing in various orchestra ensembles for school events such as the annual Junior Ring Ceremony. This year she is also part of the Mathematics Honor Society, National Honor Society and National English Honor Society, as well as serving as a manager for the Oakcrest Service Initiatives Program. When she’s not at school, Gianna loves playing and teaching piano, spending time with her family and friends, reading, and watching movies.
“My favorite thing about Oakcrest is the people,” Gianna says. “I have met many amazing people throughout my years here and have formed a lot of good friendships. Another thing that I like about Oakcrest is that the chapel is at the center of the school.”
