Edith graduated from Oakcrest in 2019 and attended the University of Dallas, where she majored in history. She currently works in Development and Event Planning in Austin, Texas. Edith enjoyed every moment of her time at Oakcrest. In particular, she loved performing as the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz, competing on the swim team, and working as editor of the yearbook. Edith enjoys getting back together with her Oakcrest classmates whenever she is back in the D.C. area. She is passionate about the mission of Oakcrest and is grateful for her time there where she made so many close friendships and received fantastic formation! She is excited to help to continue to foster the Oakcrest community through her role on the alumnae leadership team.
Maritere graduated from George Mason University in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts in English Writing. She and her husband, Richard, have 8 children ranging in ages from 27 to 10 and 5 grandchildren. Their daughter, Ellie, started this year in the 6th grade at Oakcrest. Maritere homeschools their youngest daughter and 2 of their boys currently attend The Heights. Over the last 28 years, they have lived in Virginia, Connecticut and Florida, and returned home 6 years ago, moving around the corner from Oakcrest. Maritere has always been very active in all of her children’s schools, serving as Room Mom, Fundraising Committee Chair, member of the Parent Advisory Board, and as Admissions Coordinator for their children’s school in Florida. She is currently the Alumnae Relations Coordinator for Oakcrest and really enjoys the time she gets to spend with the Oakcrest alumnae. She is very passionate about the pro-life movement and has served on the Board of the Paul Stefan Home in Orange, VA and as a volunteer at A Woman’s Choice in Herndon, VA. Maritere loves being creative, baking, reading, writing, planning events and spending as much time as possible at the beach.
Katie is in her third year at the University of Virginia School of Law and is excited to return to the D.C. area to practice once she finishes. Before law school, Katie attended UCLA, graduating in June of 2020 with a bachelor’s degree in Design Media Arts and a minor in Entrepreneurship. Katie is passionate about the Oakcrest community and was involved in almost every piece of Oakie life during her four years there. She was the White Team spirit captain, (re)started the newspaper, was in every Upper School show, and was a member of the swim team and the sailing team. She continues her involvement with Oakcrest as a member of the Oakcrest Alumnae Committee and as a class captain. Although she graduated just before Oakcrest moved to its permanent home, she thinks of the new building as her own, and looks forward to making new memories there as an alumna.
Giorgina graduated from Oakcrest in 2015 as an acorn. She received two bachelor’s degrees in Government and Global Studies with a Concentration in Latin American Studies from the College of William & Mary. She then received her Master of Arts in Human Rights from the Universidad de Navarra in Spain. While at Oakcrest, Giorgina was the point guard for the Varsity basketball team, co-captain and setter of the Varsity volleyball team, President of the Latin Honor Society, member of the concert-chorus, proud supporter of the Green Team, as well as the first exchange student sent to Orvalle, Oakcrest’s sister school in Madrid. Giorgina currently works in Congressional Affairs at the International Republican Institute. Previously she worked at Americans for Tax Reform, the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission with Co-Chair Christopher H. Smith, Kirsten Fedewa & Associates, and the Center for a Secure Free Society. She credits Oakcrest for providing an environment where young women cultivated leadership skills, developed a strong sense of self, and were encouraged to go into society to make a
Kathleen teaches History Oakcrest. She attended Roanoke College, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in History with a concentration in East Asian Studies. She is particularly interested in Chinese history, studying abroad in China with grants from the ASIANetwork Freeman Foundation and the U.S. Fulbright Program. She enjoys reading, playing volleyball, rock climbing, and drawing. She enjoys connecting with her students in the classroom.
Celina graduated from Marquette University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science in International Business and Marketing. She has worked in marketing and communications for a variety of organizations, including Account Executive at CKPR. She is currently in Admissions at The Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America. Celina has five children and has been married 19 years. Her two oldest daughters are now at Oakcrest, Class of 2027 and 2029. Reflecting on Oakcrest, she says, "It is a unique place that truly nurtures a girl, helping her to develop into a well-rounded, thoughtful person. Someone who strives to reach her potential in the vocation she has chosen, whether that be doctor, scientist, CEO or mother, while being compassionate and generous in her pursuit of excellence. The longest and truest friendships I have made have been at Oakcrest. There I was able to grow as a whole person alongside people who had similar values and goals; together we grew in character and skill as we pursued new and different interests and talents."
Theresa was the second of five Currano girls to graduate from Oakcrest. She graduated from University of Maryland at College Park in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts in Romance Languages and taught both Spanish and French for two years at Oakcrest before her first child was born. She and her husband, Alex, live in Alexandria and are the parents of ten children ranging in age from 4 to 24. Their oldest daughter, Eliana (Ellie), graduated from Oakcrest in 2017, and her sister Maite graduated in 2021. Theresa has been running a Mothers' Group at her home parish of St. Louis for the past twenty-three years and is currently homeschooling her five youngest children. She has enjoyed staying connected to Oakcrest over the years, from teaching, stints as a substitute and a mentor, and volunteering on the Oakcrest Gala Committee, and joined the Board of Trustees in 2022. She loves having seen Oakcrest grow over the years from the Yuma campus with its pink walls and the famous "Deck," to Balls Hill Road with its onsite theater, to our beautiful permanent campus that was built just for our girls.
Tara graduated from Oakcrest in 2011 and attended James Madison University where she finished with a degree in English and creative writing. After working as a paralegal in Philadelphia for a few years, Tara and her husband moved back to her hometown to grow their family. They live in Fairfax County with their two children, and Tara currently works as the head coach of Oakcrest’s middle school volleyball team. While at Oakcrest, Tara played on and served as captain for the varsity volleyball team, starred as the Wicked Witch in the Upper School performance of Wizard of Oz, and served on the student council and as a student ambassador, proudly showing off Oakcrest. She credits Oakcrest for her ability to think independently and for being one of the pillars of her faith. Tara enjoys baking, writing, playing volleyball, taking pictures of her babies, and jigsaw puzzles.
