Meet Our Students

Amelia '24

Amelia (‘24) is a talented student-athlete who recently earned a place in the prestigious Drive, Chip and Putt Tournament at the Augusta National Golf Club which took place before the Masters Tournament on April 4, 2021.

Founded by the Masters Tournament, United States Golf Association and The PGA of America, Drive, Chip and Putt is a nationwide junior golf competition for girls and boys ages 7-15.

When she joined Oakcrest in eight grade, Amelia felt right at home. She was drawn to Oakcrest because of its academic opportunities and the kindness of its students, faculty, and staff. “I chose Oakcrest because it seemed like a very friendly place and I loved how it was a liberal arts centered school” she says. “When I visited for the first time, I felt so welcomed by all of the girls, and the teachers were kind and caring.”

Amelia thoroughly enjoys the academic experience at Oakcrest, and it’s hard for her to choose just one favorite class this year. She particularly enjoys English, where she is reading a number of books on Greek Mythology, as well as World History, where her class has been learning about ancient civilizations and empires. “Theology class has had a big influence on me because I feel like I have learned so much that allowed me to develop both spiritually and mentally!” she adds.

Besides being an avid reader, writer, and photographer, Amelia plays classical guitar and golfs competitively. She has been golfing since the age of six, when her dad first introduced her to the sport, and is currently a member of Oakcrest’s Varsity Golf team. Most recently, Amelia played in the 2021 Drive, Chip and Putt Finals in Augusta, Georgia, a highly competitive event that participants must qualify for. Amelia placed fourth in her division (12-13 year-old girls) at the tournament. She’s looking forward to playing in the Peggy Kirk Bell Golf Tour, AJGA, and other tournaments later this year.

While Amelia loves the competitive and social aspects of golf, she also appreciates how it’s helped her grow in character. “One aspect that I love about the game is how you can learn life skills such as honesty, integrity, and sportsmanship,” she says.
