When Bethany D. ’25 considers what it means to be an Oakie, she says that it’s the opportunity to “learn and shape ourselves so that we can serve God in whatever way he asks us to.”
“I hope to use the skills that all those around me have helped me to cultivate and to help others, whether that is in college or later in life,” Bethany explained.
Bethany started at Oakcrest in the sixth grade after much anticipation of wanting to attend Oakcrest for many years prior. “When I visited, I was drawn in by the peaceful but exciting learning environment and the welcoming teachers and students,” she said.
One of her most memorable classroom experiences was her sixth grade Ancient Civilization History class with Ms. Meghan Hadley ’06, former history teacher and Dean of Students. “We were always having a good time, whether that was memorizing poems like Ozymandius, mummifying stuffed animals, or learning about the Persian War, it was always an exciting class to look forward to.”
Throughout campus, Bethany can be found running on the cross country team, as a member of the Respect Life Club, singing in the Liturgical Choir and as co-president of the Student Ambassadors. This year, Bethany is also starting the Newspaper Club.
“All the activities that I participate in help me to stretch myself in different ways,” she says. “Ambassadors has especially helped me learn to take initiative and meet and introduce other girls to Oakcrest. All the sports I have participated in, especially cross country, have also helped me to meet students in other grades and build relationships as we work together toward our goals and encourage one another at meets and practices.”
During her time at Oakcrest, Bethany says that the formation she has received and the friends she has made have been some of the things that mean the most to her.
“All the classes are shaped to make you a more well-rounded person, with an emphasis on the importance that faith should have in your everyday life,” Bethany said. “The friends you make are really close, and you know that all the girls in your class and the other classes will go on to do great things, and that you’ll have the same formational tools to depend on as you go on to college and the world.”
Outside of Oakcrest, Bethany enjoys cooking and baking (she even works a job in a kitchen!) as well as reading and playing sports.
