Meet Our Students

Amelia '24

Joining Oakcrest School in the 8th grade, Amelia C. ’24 says she was drawn to the school because of the rigorous liberal arts curriculum, but that in addition, she also found much more.

“The unparalleled community at Oakcrest means so much to me,” Amelia said. “From the teachers to the students, everyone at Oakcrest puts in so much effort to help me become the best person I can be. The teachers are always willing to help, and my classmates are always so encouraging.”

From the little things, such as eating lunch with her classmates in the senior commons, to the bigger things, like AP US History with Mrs. Aimee Maturi, Amelia says that her Oakcrest experience has been a blend of fun with learning.

For the last 5 years, Amelia has been fully immersed in what it means to be an Oakie, which she describes as, “An Oakie is a girl who sets goals for herself, works hard, and is never afraid to ask for help. Most importantly, she is kind to others and stays true to herself. When I graduate from Oakcrest, I will take these qualities and apply them to my personal and professional goals. Being an Oakie sets me up for success because of the endless virtues that Oakcrest has instilled in me.”

Since coming to Oakcrest, Amelia has been a member of the varsity golf team. In 2023, she was named to the The Washington Post All-Met First Team due to her accomplishments with the Virginia Christian Athletic Conference and Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association

“My favorite Oakcrest memory is driving to golf tournaments with my teammate Olivia Vigilante ‘23 and Coach Sweatman. Most of our golf tournaments were far away, so we frequently took ‘road trips’ together.”

When not in the classroom or on the golf course, Amelia is the co-chief editor of the school yearbook, Crescens. “This experience has been extremely valuable, since I am able to learn how to lead a team to create a beautiful yearbook,” she says. Amelia has also served on student council as class president in 10th grade and executive secretary in 11th grade. Alongside classmate Lianor S. ‘24, she runs the Service Initiative Project Backpack Buddies, which brings school supplies to school communities in need.

One thing Amelia says she will miss about Oakcrest after graduation is seeing her friends every day. “I am incredibly grateful for all of the strong friendships I have made at Oakcrest. Even though the friendships I have made at this school are life-long, I will definitely miss hanging out with them every day.”

Outside of Oakcrest, Amelia enjoys cooking and trying new foods and teaching herself to play classical guitar. This past summer, she interned with the non-profit organization, United Help Ukraine, which provides humanitarian relief to those in need due to the war in Ukraine. She continues to tutor a student in Ukraine, which she says has been such a rewarding experience.
