Charlotte '24

Charlotte O. ’24 comes from a long line of aunts and cousins attending Oakcrest, so when her turn came, she says, “I had been looking forward to it forever.”

“I love that at Oakcrest anyone is willing to be your friend,” Charlotte says. “It’s super easy to have hilarious or meaningful conversations with anyone, teachers, and other students. It’s cool that I can have friends who are older and younger.” 

Throughout the past seven years, Charlotte has been on the track team, and later helped establish the rock climbing team with her classmate, Katie K. ’24 during their junior year. The two have served as captains the past two years. 

“I especially love being on sports teams where you get to hang out with girls in other grades,” Charlotte said. “It’s awesome to learn from them when you’re younger, and then share what you’ve learned as a captain and teammate.” 

From her involvement in the Concert Chorus and the Liturgical Choir, to her participation with the Literary Magazine and as a science lab teachers assistant, Charlotte has certainly embraced all that it is to be an Oakie. 

“Being an Oakie is being ready to take on challenges and work hard for others,” she explains. “Oakies are fun and involved. I want to stay active in whatever community I’m in and bring the same joyful spirit we have here at Oakcrest.” 

One of her most memorable classes has been AP Biology with Dr. Kat Hussmann. “I am not usually a science person, but I appreciated how engaging the class was,” Charlotte said. “Dr. Hussmann teaches by asking and answering questions and that sparks some amazing conversations. I appreciate when teachers push you to work hard, and show that they are working right alongside you. Dr. Hussmann definitely did that. The labs were hands on, and there was never a dull moment.” 

Charlotte has also been involved in a few Oakcrest plays, most recently playing Sister Berthe in the Upper School production of The Sound of Music in the fall of 2022. “I have a fondness for our musicals, because they’re such an awesome opportunity for girls to show off their incredible talents,” she said. 

As she prepares to graduate this spring, Charlotte says one of her top Oakcrest memories was the senior retreat. “Being out in nature with my class, and having moments for introspection and prayer about big upcoming decisions was truly an amazing experience.” 

To the younger Oakies, Charlotte hopes to impart this sliver of wisdom: “The key to high school success is lots of sleep! Get those eight hours!”
