Oakcrest names annual day of service after alumna and faculty member, Anna Diederich '17
Alumnae parent and faculty member, Mrs. Jennifer Kilmer (Christina '16, Michelle '18, Julie '19, Rosie '25) announced at the March 26 student-led assembly that the annual all-school service day will be permanently named the “Anna Diederich Day of Service” in honor of alumna and faculty member, Anna Diederich '17, who passed away in 2023.
"Ms. Anna Deiderich was an alumna who graduated from Oakcrest in 2017 as an Acorn, attending since sixth grade. After college, she returned to Oakcrest as a mathematics teacher, Cross Country and Track and Field coach, and senior class dean.
Our annual service day will be permanently named the 'Anna Diederich Day of Service' to honor her incredible legacy of generosity, joy, and selflessness. Ms. Deiderich truly lived what it means to be a 'trustee of humanity,' always putting others first and finding happiness in serving them. She truly exemplified the attributes of our Portrait of a Graduate. In her college paper, 'A Rule of Life,' she wrote, 'I am happiest when I am taking care of other people.' Naming this day after her is a meaningful tribute to a dear alumna, reminding all of us to serve with the same love and dedication she showed every day.
Our service day t-shirts will remain red for Ms. Deidrich’s signature lipstick, and for her beloved role as senior dean. As we wear red, let us carry Ms. Diedrich’s spirit with us. She was a gift to our community, and this will be a beautiful way to carry on her example."
Anna Diederich's grandparents attended the assembly and received their own t-shirts honoring their granddaughter.
